Statement why we stop supporting PHP4 in toendaCMS 2
The toendaCMS Framework has supported a long time PHP4. But since 3 years the next generation of PHP is available. It is deployed and tested in many productive environments.Unfortunately, the web hosts upgraded their technology to PHP5 very slowly. This made it very difficult for toendaCMS and many other PHP projects to fully employ all the PHP5 feature's.
The Problem is, PHP developers cannot drop the PHP4 support because the web hosters have already installed PHP4. If their would drop it, their applications would become incompatibility. But the web hosters must have installed PHP4 to provide a web hosting platform for the PHP applications. It's a vicious circle that needs to be broken.
From 5. Febuary 2008 many PHP projects drop the support for all PHP versions older than 5.2. And so on, we also do that.
With this step we believe that web hosters have enough reasons to upgrade their PHP to PHP 5.2 and greater.
